The other was the first president of the National Football League. Mary Lazarus and Joseph Carr were both inducted into the Columbus Hall of Fame this week.

The Columbus Dispatch reports that city natives Lazarus and Carr were honored at a ceremony on Monday at City Hall. Lazarus was on-hand to receive the honor and used the occasion to speak out in favor of Planned Parenthood whose local chapter was started by her mother-in-law 85 years ago.

Joseph Carr served as the head of the NFL from 1921 until his passing in 1939. From 1925 to 1928, he also served as president of the American Basketball League leading two professional leagues at the same time. His great-grandson Joseph F. Carr IV accepted the honor from Mayor Michael Coleman on his family’s behalf.  (jj)
