Highway Patrol eyeing the ladies

The Ohio Highway Patrol is dealing with something that we’ll just call a “sexual imbalance.”

Of the 1,550 OHP troopers, 133 are women. That’s roughly nine percent. The Patrol says that’s something that they would like to change and they are taking steps to make that happen. Officials say that the agency has begun the process of actively recruiting women to join their ranks. An upcoming seminar is planned for women only. Lest anyone think that this is an Ohio-specific issue, surrounding states have similar percentages when it comes to the number of men on patrol vs women.

60 women of 1,222 officers (4.9%)

Ohio Highway State Patrol
133 women of 1,550 officers (8.5%)

Michigan State Police
188 female of 1,688 officers (11.1%)

Pennsylvania State Police
226 female of 4,203 officers (5.3%)
