The Columbus Dispatch reports that New Albany has joined a growing list of Central Ohio communities banning the sale of tobacco products to people under the age of 21. A new law was approved by the city council this week.
The ordinance makes it a fourth-degree misdemeanor for a retailer to sell such products to anyone under 21. For the first offense, the seller could receive punishment of up to 30 days in jail and a fine of $250. Further offenses would be considered third-degree misdemeanors. Each could result in 60 days in jail and a fine of $500. (jj)
