As a Columbus Police officer was at a home taking a report about threats against a family on Summit Street, the man accused of making those threats (Jason Smith) ran into the house and attacked the cop. The two engaged in a struggle and Smith pulled a gun on Officer Matthew Carroll. The homeowner screamed a warning to the officer about the gun. Carroll pulled his service revolver and fired two shots into the side of Smith delivering wounds that proved to be fatal.
A Franklin County Grand Jury reviewing the March incident has now decided NOT to indict Officer Carroll in the incident.
