Raising the speed limit to 75mph? Senators say ‘no’
For those looking forward to a possible lifting of the speed limit to 75mph on certain rural stretches of highway…its not going to happen. Its not going to happen right now, anyway. The Ohio Senate had considered an idea to lift the limit as part of the pending transportation budget bill. The provision to raise that limit eventually was removed and today the budget was passed unanimously. The House will hold its vote on Thursday. (jj)

The Ohio Senate is actively considering raising the speed limit on Ohio’s rural highways to 75mph. In the summer of 2013, the limit on more than 1,700 miles worth of roadway increased to 70mph. Some lawmakers are saying that since that change there has been no increase in the number of accidents, so the limit should be raised again. The Ohio State Highway Patrol says that its too soon to make that sort of an assessment.
Since the speed limit was increased on those parts of 70, 71, 77, 75 and 90, the number of speeding tickets has fallen by about 7 percent.
Personally, I’m for anything that gets me down the road faster. (jj)
