State says baseball promoter ran afoul of the law

Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine has filed suit against a New Albany man who charged folks to enter baseball tournaments that never happened. The state says that Kenneth Halloy charged teams between $2000 and $5000 to register for the events that were supposed to have happened last year. When the tournaments were cancelled, the teams were unable to get their money back. DeWine’s office says that four teams have filed complaints with his office and that others may follow suit.

“It is especially disappointing when adults allegedly break the law by ripping off youth sports teams.”

At present, it appears that Halloy is promoting tournaments to happen this summer, but says that those events will also not occur.  (jj)
