SUV slams into utility truck near German Village

A late morning accident has Moler Street closed between South High Street and City Park Avenue near German Village as police investigate the incident.

They say that the driver of a red SUV was being chased by another vehicle (not police) at around 10:30 this morning. Witnesses report seeing the SUV driver throw a gun out the window and into Schiller Park before the accident. Police have since recovered the firearm.

As the chase continued, the SUV smashed into the side of an AEP truck. (That vehicle appears to have been unoccupied at the time of the crash.) After the accident, the chasing driver fled the scene.

The driver of the SUV was taken to Grant Medical Center in critical condition.  (jj)
