Mount Carmel: ‘Goodbye, Franklinton. Hello, Grove City!’

Major changes are in store for Mount Carmel Health System. Administrators today are announcing plans to build a seven-story, 210-bed in-patient hospital in Grove City. The project, at a cost of more than $350 million, is expected to open in 2018 and will replace the in-patient facility in Franklinton.  At the Franklinton site, approximately $46 million will be spent for demolition purposes and to upgrade and enhance remaining things like the 24-hour emergency department, the College of Nursing and the Community Health Resource Center.

As for Mount Carmel East, major changes are planned there with the addition of a 128-bed tower to create an all private-room facility. This project is estimated at $310 million. Administrators say that, even with all of the changes afoot, no layoffs are expected.  (jj)
