With new OSU clinical trial, you can recover from that “arrow to the knee”

A new clinical trial at OSU Wexner Medical is aiming to relieve knee pain with a new treatment. Dr. Kaeding, (Sports Medicine Director for the OSU Wexner Medical Center) says that they’ve finished the first surgery in the US using the new treatment: an implant that cushions the knee’s meniscus joint. The meniscus, the C-shaped pad that cushions cartilage inside the knee joint, can tear. Usually, when that happens, you go in for knee replacement surgery. But knee replacements only last about 8 to 12 years, so doctors don’t like to use them on younger patients. The implant Dr. Kaeding used would be for younger and more active patients with knee injuries. The FDA still has to approve the implant, which could take several years.

So for now, try to avoid taking any arrows to the knee. (deb)
