Finding: smokers caused 4-alarm fire at recycling plant
Columbus fire investigators say that employees were honest and forthcoming with their answers in regards to the recent 4-alarm fire at a recycling plant on Marion Road. The May 1st blaze could be seen from miles away; smoke from the fire even registered on weather radar equipment. As many as 15 fire engines and 52 vehicles in all were used to gain control and eventually extinguish the blaze. And according to the findings of investigators, it all started with a group of workers violating company policy with their smoke break.
“Several employees who work in this area were honest when speaking with investigators and reported that, in direct violation of company policy, they had been smoking in this area just prior to the fire’s discovery.”
