Former Athens County Sheriff learns prison sentence

Its not just out-of-control Bobcat fans that find themselves in trouble with the law. Sometimes, its the sheriff.

Former Athens County Sheriff Patrick Kelly was sentenced to 7 years behind bars today after having been found guilty last month on a list of charges including theft in office. Prosecutors say that Kelly’s wrongdoing began shortly after he took office in 2009. During the trial, Kelly said that he was guilty of nothing more than poor record-keeping.  (jj)
