Masked bandit apprehended in Commissioner’s office

So this story is a little old, as it happened the first week of May. But it’s a Monday, so why not delve into the past for a good crime story?

On Thursday night (4/30), an intruder broke into Franklin County Commissioner Marilyn Brown’s office. The intruder knocked over and destroyed family photos, awards, artwork, AND smeared feces all over the office. When Deputy sheriffs came to investigate the scene, they came under the assumption it was a burglary. But the intruder was discovered hiding in an office closet; he was easily identified … as a raccoon.

The raccoon was probably looking for food, but instead found two Dove chocolates; which he ate and proceeded to make him a little sick (see: destroying office).

Animal-control came and removed the raccoon, but later had to put it down. State law prohibits animal relocation into the wild if that animal is a rabies carrier and it’s unclear where it came from.

Officials still aren’t sure how exactly the raccoon got into the building, but a pest-management company was hired to investigate and make sure there weren’t more raccoons living in the ceiling. (deb)
