Proposed: Doubling the alcohol content in beer
Make mine a double.
Ohio lawmakers are considering changing existing law to nearly double the percentage of alcohol content permissible in beer. They want to lift the maximum percentage of alcohol from 12% to 21%. A max-content beer would estimate out to roughly the same content as five average domestic beers. Debate so far has been heard amongst a few voices. Some oppose the measure because they view it as dangerous for one reason or another. Lawmakers say that such a change could result in job creation. Others say there’s nothing to fear from lifting the alcohol content. They say that beer with a 21% content would likely be priced at such a cost as to be out of reasonable reach for average young people and college students. (jj)
