Strickland gets thumbs up from former POTUS

Ohio played the waiting game for most of this year on whether or not former governor Ted Strickland would run for Senate. But after officially announcing his run last month, it looks like he’s got a major player showing him some support. Former President Bill Clinton is endorsing Strickland. According to WOSU, “Clinton says in a statement that Strickland, 73, offers a proven record of service to working Ohioans, and qualities including determination and idealism.”

Well, alright…*said with a poorly attempted Clinton impersonation* (deb)

Strickland running for Senate

Former Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland has officially announced that he’s running for the US Senate.

In a statement released this morning, Strickland said:

I’m running for the United States Senate in 2016 because I am determined to restore the American Dream for working people in this country. I believe in the American Dream because I’ve lived it.  I grew up in rural Scioto County as the eighth of nine children, and was the first person in my family to go to college.  My father was a proud steelworker and my hard-working mother devoted her life to raising our family.  I know how difficult it is to move up in this world, and the deck is increasingly stacked against working people.

Strickland to announce on Wednesday

Former Governor Ted Strickland (D) is expected to announce his candidacy for U.S. Senate on Wednesday. David Lealand, a friend of the former governor and the former head of the party in the Buckeye state, talked about Strickland’s expected candidacy saying, “I just wrote him a check for $5,400, so he better be running.”

Strickland will first need to win the Democratic nomination before challenging incumbent Senator Rob Portman (R) in the fall.  (jj)

Strickland Moves One Step Closer

Former Ohio Governor Ted Strickland (D) has been rumored for awhile to be considering a run for the U.S. Senate. Now it appears that he is one step closer to making it official. Strickland has begun fundraising for a potential campaign. E-mail solicitations began going out this week asking potential donors to make their checks out to ‘Strickland for Senate.’ The former leader of the buckeye state would first need to defeat Cincinnati city councilman P.G. Sittenfeld and any other challengers for the Democratic nomination before going up against incumbent Senator Rob Portman (R) in the fall.

Strickland became Ohio’s governor with a convincing win in the 2006 election, taking 60% of the vote. His 2010 bid for reelection lost out to current Governor John Kasich (R).  (jj)
