Reviewing police response after OSU’s championship win

A review of police accounts from the night of this year’s National Championship Game suggests problems with officers’ handling of campus crowds following Ohio State’s win. Tear gas and pepper spray were used to disperse crowds gathered in celebration of the Buckeye victory. In terms of communication, officers appear to have given differing instructions to the crowd, with some telling students that they needed to simply stay off of High Street, while others insisted that students needed to leave the area completely. Police supervisors do say that the use of tear gas and pepper spray was proper because warning was given to the crowd before the agents were used.  (jj)
