Update: More details on scene of gruesome Hilltop shootings

10882311_794563223945560_9136856565459722150_nUpdate: The Columbus Dispatch is reporting more details that have come out about the scene Monday night as a neighbor shot a family of four, killing the parents and their 7-year-old son.

Columbus Police officers say that when they arrived on the scene, some in response to a 911 call from inside the home, others who heard gunshots while patrolling the Hilltop neighborhood, 12-year-old Maykleigh Anderson emerged from the home having been shot four times. She is currently in the hospital recovering from surgery.

The shooter, Barry Kirk, also had come out of the house. Officers saw him running across the street and confronted him. According to police, Kirk reached for his waist and that’s when police opened fire hitting him multiple times. (He would later die of his injuries. Kirk was found to have been carrying a handgun.  (jj)

Columbus Police say that a neighbor opened fire on a family of four inside of their Hilltop-area home. When the shooting stopped, John Anderson II (31), Christina Anderson (30) and Landon Anderson (7) were dead. The couple’s daughter, Makyleigh (12), was also shot and is listed in critical condition at Nationwide Children’s Hospital.

Police say that the mother called 911 just after 5pm on Monday and said that an intruder had just shot her husband. As police arrived to the scene, the shooter was exiting the home and running back to his own house across the street on South Terrace Avenue. Three officers were forced to fire on the suspect and struck him multiple times. The Columbus Dispatch reports that he later died at Mount Carmel West hospital. No officers were injured.  (jj)
