OSU announces interim band director
The search goes on for Jon Waters’ replacement as band director at Ohio State. The university today announced Christopher Hoch as the interim director. Hoch is quite familiar with the program, having served the last couple of years as associate director.
“I appreciate the university’s support and trust. The Ohio State University Marching and Athletic Bands are truly special, and I want to be part of continuing to build on our success and supporting our students. Our students deserve every opportunity to succeed and thrive.”
– Ohio State University interim band director Christopher Hoch
OSU says that they will continue their efforts to fill the director position once and for all at the end of the upcoming season. Translation….this is going to drag out for a long time to come. (jj)

Previous: Back to the drawing board for band director search committee 4/22/15
Its back to the drawing board for the search committee looking for candidates to fill the spot of former Ohio State band director Jonathan Waters. With two finalists for the post having been identified, and both having visited the OSU campus, both have now decided to pull their names from consideration and remain at their current institutions. (Barry Houser at the University of Illinois, Corey Spurlin at Auburn). (jj)

Ohio State’s new band director?
Reports had been that OSU was down to two finalists to replace Jon Waters as director of The Best Damn Band In The Land…Barry Houser from the University of Illinois and Corey Spurlin of Auburn. Both men have made visits to the Buckeye campus and both were obviously interested in the position. But as each awaited a call and an offer from Ohio State, it seems that Houser received a different call…one from his current employer. Illinois has apparently pledged renewed support to Houser and his program if he agrees to stay. With that in mind, he has now withdrawn his name from consideration for the Buckeye band director role.
And that leaves Spurlin.
As Ohio State and former director Waters have begun their dealings in court, the university has yet to make an official announcement on the replacement. (jj)
