filmnowThe Gateway Film Center has been named as local host of the 2015 Kickstarter Film Festival.

32 theaters across the U.S. will take part in the event, screening films funded through successful Kickstarter efforts. The crowdfunding site says that they sifted through thousands of features, documentaries and shorts in making their selections for this year’s festival. On the bill for the event:

  • What We Do in the Shadows – Three vampires navigate the complexities of modern life…From the creators of the HBO series Flight of the Conchords (narrative feature)
  • Afronauts – Inspired by true events…a team of Zambian misfits races to beat America to the moon (narrative short)
  • T-Rex – The true story of a teenage girl — Claressa “T-Rex” Shields — who becomes the first woman to box for gold in the 2012 Olympics (documentary feature)
  • Submarine Sandwich – The strangest sandwich ever seen (stop-motion animated short)
  • World of Tomorrow – This stunning, award-winning animated short introduces us to Emily as she gets a startling visit from her future (cloned) self.

The event takes place October 15th. Admission is free but people are asked to RSVP to the Gateway Film Center.  (jj)
