New pics / video as zoo begins hand-rearing polar bear cub

We told you yesterday about the birth of a new polar bear baby at the Columbus Zoo. (The mother…Aurora…gave birth to twin cubs last Friday, but only one survived.)

The zoo tells us that Thursday morning, Aurora stopped caring for the surviving baby. Keepers made the devision to remove the newborn and begin hand-rearing it. They say that the cub is female and appears healthy. She weighs 1.5 pounds…is feeding normally…and is being closely monitored around the clock.  (jj)
