Macy’s says that they are preparing to close 35 to 40 of their stores by the early part of next year.
The retailer operates 770 stores in 45 states and has already closed 40 locations in just the last few years. So far, no word on which stores will be closing their doors. There are 4 Macy’s locations in Central Ohio (Easton Town Center, Polaris Fashion Place, Tuttle Crossing, Eastland Mall).
Macy’s says that as many people change their shopping habits and move to online purchasing, sales at many brick and mortar stores have declined. The move is an effort to remain competitive in a challenging battle for profits. (jj)
