Bread recall in 10 states including Ohio
Bimbo Bakeries has announced a recall of more than 48,000 packages of bread in ten states including Ohio.
The Pennsylvania bakery produces products for Sara Lee, Kroger, Nature’s Harvest, Great Value, L’Oven Fresh and under its own Bimbo label. Bread included in the recall has a “best by” date ranging from August 29th to September 1st and a “bakery code” of 1658.
The company has taken the measure because of a broken light bulb in their manufacturing plant. One customer apparently found glass on the outside of a loaf of bread. There have been no reports of injuries.
If you have any of the product included in the recall, you are encouraged to return it to the grocery store for a refund.
Now….can we go back to the name bimbo for a second? According to the company, the name of the company is derived from the Italian word bambino, meaning ‘little boy.’ When the Mexican company began doing business in the United States, they had concerns about keeping their name. At one point, they introduced billboards like the one seen here. (The name of their trademark bear character is also ‘Bimbo.’)
