Lancaster and Grove City are seeing a spike in the use of counterfeit money. The Tim Hortons on S High St. (in the Great Southern Shopping Center) has signs saying they won’t accept bills larger than $50 or $100 because of counterfeit activity and police are investigating two women who used fake $100 bills at businesses in Lancaster, Grove City, and Columbus.
According to Homeland Security, there’s usually a spike in counterfeit money circulation from Dec. to Jan. and Jonathan Schuck, the resident agent in charge with Homeland Security’s Columbus office, says their office normally sees roughly $30,000 in counterfeit money a month.
