Epic: Westerville woman busted for stealing IDs in tax scheme
Someone may want to make a movie out of this epic tale. To cut to the chase, a guy named Roma Sims was busted a couple of years ago for playing a lead role in a scheme where he stole people’s identities and filed fraudulent tax returns. He was caught after misspelling the names of cities in the return addresses on the tax documents. (To be fair, a lot of people miss that silent “h” at the end of ‘Pittsburgh.’)
Jump to today. Roma’s wife Kelly is now basically accused of doing the same thing. Agents searched her apartments on May 20th and came away with evidence that she was involved in the stealing of the identities of her husband’s fellow inmates. Alleged co-conspirators supposedly set up bank accounts to receive direct deposit of the IRS refunds. The co-conspirator would keep a portion of the money and turn the balance over to Mrs. Sims. When one of these people refused to hand over money to Kelly Sims, that person was taken hostage at gunpoint and held for ransom at Sims’ apartment. The captive’s father notified police.
I’m telling you…this would make a great movie. (jj)
