German Village goes old school with renovations for historic elementary school
Classes are back in session for Stewart Alternative Elementary School. The German Village elementary school recently underwent renovations and repairs. The school is on the National Historic Register, which is the reason the renovation wasn’t scrapped when a fire damaged the school back in 2010. Jeff Warner, Director of Communication for Columbus City Schools, said that of the 109 schools in the district, Stewart Alternative is the oldest building still in use (and has 300 students on the school roster).
The original 1874 building will now have WiFi, bigger classrooms, a bigger playground, a new gym, and a new drop-off area for students. And in addition, students at the school will have have their own Chromebooks to work on as the school reopens.
