Jump in theft rate in Upper Arlington
Upper Arlington police say that they have noticed a 25% increase in retail thefts in the last several months. This includes businesses like grocery stores where they now report receiving multiple crime calls each week. Authorities blame drugs for the increase. They says that crooks are stealing goods and then selling or pawning the items. The money then goes to helping the perps to get their fix.
Police say that they have stepped up patrols and are actively working to inform retailers about the increase in criminal behavior. A number of stores have taken steps to switch-up their security operations. (jj)
