Kasich responds to Perry’s exit from 2016 race
When the Republican candidates for president meet for debates this week in Simi Valley, California, there group will be short one contender.
Former Texas governor Rick Perry dropped out of the race on Saturday.
“When I gave my life to Christ, I said, ‘Your ways are greater than my ways. Your will is superior to mine. Today I submit to you His will remains a mystery, but some things have become clear to me. That is why today I am suspending my campaign for the presidency of the United States.” – Rick Perry (R)
This was Perry’s second campaign for the White House. For a brief time, he led polls for the GOP nomination in 2008. That effort appeared to come off the rails in part due to his infamous oops moment during a primary debate.
This time around, Perry never seemed to catch any traction with would-be voters.
In a New Hampshire speech on Saturday, Ohio Governor John Kasich called Perry a class act. He later offered this on Twitter:
Appreciate @GovernorPerry being part of this campaign to return conservatism to the White House. Let's make it happen. -John
