Mayor Coleman calls Crime Stoppers allegation “sour grapes”
The former longtime head of Central Ohio Crime Stoppers is issuing fresh allegations in an ongoing federal investigation of possible corruption. Kevin Miles says that Mayor Michael Coleman’s campaign manager pressured him to spend public dollars with a supporter of the mayor. Miles says that he was told to spend thousands of dollars on ads for a gun buy-back campaign in Outlook Magazine, a publication geared towards the LGBT community. He says that he resisted that directive saying that the gay community was not shooting up the city of Columbus and that the money should be spent elsewhere. According to Miles, the mayor’s campaign manager said that the ad buy was a payback for Outlook’s support of the mayor and other elected officials.
The former publisher of Outlook calls the allegation “false and offensive.” Mayor Coleman also denies the accusation saying that it sounds like “sour grapes” from a man who was asked to resign. (jj)
