New Kasich ad to introduce governor to national audience

[youtube id=”1PqA6S7rMnk”]

One day before he officially announces his bid for the Republican presidential nomination, we are getting a look at a new ad promoting the candidacy of Governor John Kasich. The new spot is just over five minutes in length (designed for digital ad buys, the internet, etc) and is aimed at introducing the Ohio governor to a national audience. The ad draws from the previous ‘what about us’ spot but expands by making a case for why the already crowded nomination race needs one more candidate. It talks about Kasich’s first run for Congress and, like the first commercial, tells of his experience and record in Congress and in the governor’s mansion. It also mentions his time as a commentator on the FOX News Channel.

Unlike the first ad which maintained a notably positive tone, this one takes shots at the Obama administration and refers to it as “amateur hour” while showing images of ISIS and a clip of the president bowing to Saudi leaders (a familiar scene to FOX News viewers). The commercial also takes aim at some of Kasich’s 2016 rivals in suggesting that voters steer clear of candidates like Jeb Bush, Hillary Clinton and Rand Paul…referring to them as being from dynasties.

The ad closes with Kasich’s definition of a good leader as being someone who has “a sense and an intuition about what’s just and what’s fair for the people” and as someone who has the obligation “to stand up for the folks.”

Kasich is expected to announced his presidential candidacy in a speech at Ohio State on Tuesday.  (jj)

Previous: “What about us?” – Kasich’s first presidential TV ad 7/8/15

With Ohio Governor John Kasich set to announce his bid for the Republican presidential nomination in less than two weeks, his campaign committee is already buying TV ad time. So far, they’ve spent $1.5 million in the early voting state of New Hampshire. And now, we’re getting a look at Kasich’s first ad.

The commercial was filmed here in Columbus and features quotes from a number of already announced 2016 candidates including Hillary Clinton, Ted Cruz and Donald Trump. A female voice then asks “what about us?” The rest of the ad features the Kasich talking about his record and his experience in Congress and in the governor’s mansion.

Ohio’s chief executive appears to be those only candidate to have purchased New Hampshire TV time at this point. The governor has to be hoping to get some free national media by being one of the first to show a TV advertisement. He has some climbing to do in the polls. The first GOP primary debate is less than a month away and FOX News says that they will only invite the top ten nationally polling candidates to participate. With at least 18 candidates expected to be in the race by the date of the debate, Kasich polls outside of the cut. So the Ohio governor may not be invited to the debate…in Cleveland.  (jj)
