Runaway dogs go unclaimed at animal shelter

67726The Franklin County Dog Shelter reports that more than 70 dogs checked into the facility over the weekend. They say that huge influx happens every 4th of July weekend when canines spooked by fireworks run off from their owners and home. If past holiday weekends are any indication, most of these animals will not be reunited with their families. Franklin County recommends having your pet microchipped for easier reunification should it run off. And if your dog was one of this last weekend’s runaways, you’re advised to file a ‘lost dog report’ with the shelter.

In an effort to make room for all of the new tenants, the shelter is running an adoption special this month. The adoption fee for all large dogs (45 pounds +) is just $18. Active military members and retired veterans can adopt any dog for $18 this month as well.   (jj)
