Walk & Roll: OU uses 3D technology to get 2-legged puppy on its feet

HT_Puppy_Wheelcart2_MEM_151116_12x5_1600Tumbles the puppy was born in early October. He’s spirited, adorable, cuddly…and was born with only his back legs.

The little terrier somehow ended up at the Friends of the Shelter Dogs rescue center in Athens. A post about Tumbles on Facebook earned the attention of a shelter supporter and her husband. The couple came up with designs for a puppy wheelchair and reached out to Ohio University. ABC News reports that scientists at the university’s Innovation Center were able to fit the dog for the device and then used 3D technology to print the wheelchair for Tumbles.

The lab tells ABC that Tumbles will continue to undergo fittings as they resize and modify the chair. But for now, his foster mom reports that the little guy is on his feet, running around and loves to play.  (jj)
