Whole Foods to cut 1,500 jobs in the next 8 weeks
The Whole Foods grocery chain on Monday announced plans to cut 1,500 jobs as it begins a focus on decreasing in-store prices.
Whole Foods has had a rough way to go as of late with accusations that it was overcharging customers on many prepackaged items sold in their stores. Management apologized to consumers and promised to improve. Elimination of these 1,500 positions over the course of the next eight weeks is viewed as a move to save costs as Whole Foods lowers consumer prices.
The company says that they expect many employees whose jobs are lost to find other employment inside of Whole Foods.
We have offered them several options including transition pay, a generous severance, or the opportunity to apply for other jobs. In addition, we will pay these Team Members in full over the next eight weeks as they decide which option to choose. We believe this is an important step to evolve Whole Foods Market in a rapidly changing marketplace.
