Critically Panned ‘Suicide Squad’ Crushes August Records
Despite having a 26% on popular review aggregate site, Rottentomatoes, Suicide Squad has shattered August opening weekend records with an insane $135.1M.
Thursday night’s sneak peaks and pre-shows started at 6pm in most cities which led to an opening day gross of $65.3m – obliterating critical darling and previous record holder Guardians of the Galaxy, which brought in a measly $94.3M
Despite the large opening, the film tumbled through out the weekend. Dropping 41% on Saturday to $38.8m with another 20% drop on Sunday to $31m. Expect the second week fallout to be monumental.
Suicide Squad had the third best opening of the weekend for all of 2016, trailing behind other comic book adaptations such as the phenomenal Captain America: Civil War ($179.1M), Batman v Superman ($166m) and Deadpool (132.4M)
