Olde Towne East’s New Art Installation Needs Feedback

Olde Towne East Neighborhood Association (OTENA) is putting up some fancy new art installation and the City of Columbus wants them to fish for some local input concerning the installation.

The art installation known as “A 1000 Eyes” is not as creepy as it sounds — and will feature hundreds of stainless steel stalks with eye-like shapes dotting upwards on each one. The eyes will have a geode crystal half, with the other side purely reflective.

“As pedestrians, cyclists, and drivers pass by the work throughout the day and night the artwork will gently glisten and visually change and move through the reflected light from the sun during the day and street lamps and automobile lights during the evening..”

Ohio artist Olga Ziemska, said in her artist statement on Facebook that the installation pays homage to “the symbolism used in the carved work of artist Elijah Pierce and also the landscape of the early Mound Builders who settled in the area and built a 40 foot high mound near Bryden Road and Champion Avenue.”

Each gold powder-coated stainless steel rod element is topped with an eye-like shape which contains either a stainless steel mirrored sphere, which will reflect the surroundings like the surface of water, or a geode crystal half which will bring a natural and unexpected organic texture to the work.

To give your thoughts or input on this newest art installation, head over to OTENA’s facebook page. They’re looking for opinions, so now’s your chance.
