OSU Grad Wins S. Korean Singing Competition, Goes Viral & Reps Ohio

This is pretty incredible guys – just goes to show how far talent and tenacity can get you. OSU Grad, Joseph Butso has won a television singing competition while living in Seoul, South Korea.

Dude is so good I’m thinking about getting into k-pop. His performance has been viewed 600k times already with over a thousand comments on the youtube page. I have no authority in the matter, but apparently his pronunciation is flawless.

What’s even more incredible is that if Butso had told you his post-grad plans, you would have surely thought it was the most outrageous thing someone could do. You would have been though.

“After I graduated, I moved to Korea to actually pursue a singing career,” he said to NBC4i during a skype interview.

In a promotional video for the show, he is shown performing on the street repping some Buckeye apparel.

The show translated into English is called, “I Can See Your Voice” and Joseph got started on by street performing.

“I started to do street performing on the street through Gospel music,” he said to NBC4i. “Then, that got popular, so then that’s how how I was able to get on the show.”

The premise of the show involves a celebrity having to guess who’s a good singer and who is faking. “He eliminated everybody else and he was like, ‘I want to sing with him’ and until I opened my mouth and actually sang, he really didn’t know if I could sing or not.” He said to NBC4i.

Butso’s love of Korean culture started in high school when a friend introduced him to K-Pop (korean pop music) – he’s been fluent in Korean for five years now.

The video below has an incredible reaction from the judges as they realize this kid can sing korean pop music.
