New Crew “For Columbus” uniforms feature colors of Columbus flag
Ever wanted to wear a uniform featuring all three primary colors? For the tens of people cheering in excitement, you’re in luck.
The Columbus Crew is leaving behind its trademark black and gold uniforms for the 2016 season and donning… well… something else entirely.
“It’s unique. It’s something different. It caught me off guard…. I think it’s special though. It looks really nice,” defender Michael Parkhurst said.
Revealed at City Hall yesterday, the new “For Columbus” uniforms feature the colors of the Columbus flag, yellow, red, white and bright, fluorescent blue. They also feature the seal of Columbus stitched directly above the players’ hearts.
Nate Scott of USA Today weighed in on the new uniforms.
“They’re spectacularly bad. A masterpiece of bad. They’re so bad that I am totally and completely falling in love with them,” Scott wrote. “I love this jersey. It is perfect. It makes no sense, but does love make any sense?”
Will Columbus Crew fans dig the endearing, so-bad-it’s-amazing vibe, or will they revolt? Only time will tell.
“It’s a little different because you’ve never seen red and blue before on a Crew SC kit,” midfielder Wil Trapp said, “but I love it.”
