Ohio State names Christopher Hoch new band director
Ohio State named Christopher Hoch the new director of Marching and Athletic Bands on Wednesday.
Hoch served as the interim director in 2015 following former director Jon Waters’ June 2014 firing related to an alleged “sexualized culture” in the marching band, and served as assistant director under Waters.
He has been credited with writing the drill for many of the band’s halftime shows, and oversaw the band’s trip to London, where they performed in Wembley Stadium at an NFL game.
“He has shown focus toward putting our students first and as director, will be expected to continue to instill in students the highest standard for their personal conduct, on and off the field,” said Bruce A. McPheron, OSU’s interim executive vice president and provost.
Hoch has signed onto a four-year contract as both a director and a member of the teaching faculty, and will be evaluated for a tenured position no later than 2021-22, according to the university.
