The Pride Festival is Moving

After six years of parading in Goodale Park, the Stonewall Columbus Pride Festival and Parade is moving back to Riverfront, according to a press release.

2017 will mark the 36th year of the second largest Pride event in the Midwest, and will take place in Bicentennial and Genoa parks. Yes, Columbus is gay and proud. We recently received a perfect score (100/100) on the Human Rights Campaign’s Municipal Equality Index (MEI).

“The Stonewall Columbus Pride Festival is one of the most important expressions of our inclusiveness as a community,” said Betsy Pandora, Executive Director of the Short North Alliance, “We are thrilled to continue to play host to the parade route and look forward to the growth of the event into the future.

This is essentially an expansion of the parade, and the parade route will be reversed next year — starting at the Short North and traveling south down High Street.

Mayor Andrew J. Ginther expressed his support for the festival’s return to downtown by stating, “The Stonewall Columbus Pride Festival and Parade truly reflects who we are as a city. Columbus has distinguished itself as an open, diverse and inclusive community, and downtown is an outstanding place to celebrate these values.”
