We Had Drinks with 451 Spirits, and Got Kinda Tipsy

Today, 614NOW and 614 Magazine sat down with chief distiller of 451 Spirits, Chad Kessler, to both try his selection of handcrafted liquor and hear why he needs your help this November.

451 Spirits is a dry distillery located just south of Weilands and is looking, with voter approval,  “to serve guests up to a total of 4 individual ¼ oz. samples of our products. Voter approval would also allow us to sell our products directly to you from our small tasting room and store located within the distillery.”

With that, we got a taste of what 451 Spirits looks to offer, and we tried their three spirits — Writer’s Block Rum, Dear Johnny Whiskey and Midsommers Night Absinthe. The rum was good — but the whiskey and absinthe is where it is at.

Chad does an incredible job explaining the process of each his spirits, all crafted by him, by hand — so check it out. It’s very interesting, especially considering this is the only Absinthe produced in Ohio.

“Our passion as a distillery is create entirely new styles of spirits, however, because of how distribution is set up in the state, it’s not really possible to do something like a limited, 100 Bottle run of whiskey and ensure it gets into the hands of the right people. Your vote can help us change that.”

For more info on 451 Spirits, head over to their Facebook page — if you’d like to buy their booze you can drink it at Seventh Son and try the absinthe at Mouton. Cheers!
