Jeni Britton Bauer to give OSU Summer Commencement speech
Jeni’s Ice Cream has grown from a boutique oddity of frozen treats to a thriving business with nationwide reach, and The Ohio State University has taken notice.
The university named founder Jeni Britton Bauer the speaker for Summer Commencement, where about 1,500 students will receive degrees.
Britton Bauer is an alumnus of Ohio State, where she studied art and art history.
“As a visionary entrepreneur and business leader, Ms. Britton Bauer will no doubt inspire our graduates to dream big and value innovation in all they do,” Ohio State President Michael Drake wrote in a press release.
In the university’s announcement this morning, it stressed Britton Bauer’s commitment to using local ingredients in her ice creams, in addition to her inventive contributions to the field of artisan ice cream.
Jeni’s Ice Cream recently received an investment from Boston investment firm Castanea Partners, which acquired a large portion of the company in exchange for an influx of capital to the tune of $15 million dollars or more.
