A #NoDAPL Protester Blocks Downtown Intersection

[Update 2:45pm] The protester who has been removed from underneath his van and traffic is back to normal.

A ‘#noDAPL’ protester drove a “No DAPL” van, parked it on the intersection of 3rd and High, and then climbed under the van where police and firemen attempted to work him out from under it.

The protester refused to come out, according to NBC4i, and other protesters watching from the sidewalk were shouting “Water is life” and “Bring our troopers home.”

NBC4i took live video footage of event as it unfolded:

The ‘No DAPL’ protesting movement is due to the constriction of the Dakota Access Pipeline which would skirt the main water source for the Standing Rock Sioux tribe. Tribe members say the pipeline could threaten their water source and possibly damage their cultural sites.

Earlier this year, governor John Kasich dispatched 37 state troopers to aid North Dakota authorities with the ongoing protests near the Native American Reservation — a move which many Ohioans have opposed.
