City employees rake it in with overtime

The city paid its employees around $605 million last year, $30 million of which was overtime, according to the city payroll office’s annual salary report. The report shows that 135 employees received more than $30,000 in overtime pay. Out of the 10,000-plus employees of the city, more than 1,000 made $10,000 or more in 2015.

One employee, a police communications technician, even tripled her pay with $106,000 in overtime on top of her $57,000 salary. Much of the overtime was paid out to public safety and public utilities workers, with police, fire and water and sewer personnel coming out ahead the most.
