Columbus Is So Gay
Columbus likes to pat itself on the back for being an LGBTQ inclusive community, holding our arms in the air — victorious — on a municipal, legislative, and public office level — with good reason, since we got a perfect score (100/100) on the Human Rights Campaign’s Municipal Equality Index (MEI).
The MEI is the only national level measurement that can determine whether or not a municipality has provided adequate services and inclusivity for its LGBTQ community. They measure areas like law enforcement, non-discrimination laws, and municipal services.
Yet, while Columbus passed this measure with flying colors, Dublin tanked the test, scoring a 34 out of 100 — the lowest in the entire state of Ohio.
Other “low” scoring municipalities tested included Cleveland, Toronto, and Lakewood, which all scored an average of 82 points. Cincinnati actually scored just a little higher than Columbus, gaining a leg up in bonus points.
