Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther to give State of the City speech tonight

Tonight at 6:30 p.m. Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther will give his inaugural State of the City speech tonight at Whetstone High School, his alma mater. The event is open to the public.

One of the main topics of the speech will be the revitalization of Columbus’ poorest neighborhoods, namely Linden and the Hilltop. Ginther is expected to announce plans to rebuild the infrastructure of those communities, with as much as $27 million being spent on curbs, road resurfacing and sidewalks in Linden, and $37 million for similar improvements in Hilltop.

Ginther has also called the implementation of police body cameras a “top priority,” and will talk about a plan to equip police officers with them by the end of 2016.

In addition, Ginther will make diversity a key issue having already named Steve Francis the city’s chief diversity officer–a new position under Ginther’s tenure.
