Columbus Passes Overdue Resolution Against Islamophobia

Although anyone can of course argue this move should’ve been made long ago, it’s refreshing to know that the city we all hold so close to our hearts is keeping up with the times and inviting diversity and inclusivity into its culture via law and order.

The Columbus Dispatch reports that City Council members have passed a resolution condemning Islamophobia.

The resolution, the idea of which came from the Jewish Voice for Peace of Central Ohio, comes after a complaint of employment discrimination in Columbus’ police department for not allowing female officers to wear headscarves in the Islamic tradition.

Though it may just be a resolution, it introduces the opportunity for more permanent laws and policies that protect the rights of Muslim Columbusites. In some situations, the resolution can also act as a law, like in situations of housing and workplace discrimination.

Way to go, Columbus officials, for moving us a little closer to inclusivity and diversity.
