DeWine: No transgender bathrooms in schools
Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine clashed with President Obama in a statement issued this morning.
Following President Obama’s recent proclamation that all U.S. public schools, including elementary schools, should allow students to use the bathroom of their gender preference rather than the one corresponding to their biological sex, DeWine said he would “vigorously fight” to keep the directive from being enforced in Ohio.
DeWine stressed the importance of such decisions being left to the individual school districts and the families they serve, rather than federal executives or bureaucrats.
The Obama administration threatened to strip federal funding from schools that don’t comply–another decision that DeWine questioned.
Eleven states sued the federal government this week with similar concerns, though Ohio was not one of them.
DeWine’s statement comes the same week he announced he’s planning on running for Governor of Ohio in 2018.
