Downtown Protests as Ohio Ratifies Donald Trump’s Win

Update: Electors have delivered the 18 electoral college votes to Donald Trump. The group voted this afternoon at the statehouse, formalizing Donald Trump’s victory over Hillary Clinton.

There were no “faithless electors” in Ohio due to a law that binds electors to the winning party’s candidate.

So, today marks the day that we can all move on with our lives as Donald Trump will, without any uncertainty, be declared the official President-elect of the United States of America for a minimum of four years. The electors will vote, and that will be that. Infact, Ohio is a foregone conclusion, Trump’s campaign had a hand in picking this year’s electors so you can bet they’ll play it straight.

For some of you this is probably the most horrible thing you could possibly read (Protestors are marching on the Statehouse as I write this,) and for others it’s a day where after eight years you feel you finally have someone you believe to be on your side.

Just a quick reminder, Trump won Ohio with a resounding 51% to Clinton’s 43%. The largest winning margin since Bush v. Dukakis in 1988. As an aside Ohio is generally one of the few states that is an accurate predictor of who generally wins, only siding with the loser twice it’s history as a state. (FDR in 1944, and JFK in 1960 — I guess we don’t like initialized names.)

There was some controversy over State Rep. Christina Hagan (R) who ultimately ended up resigning due to a lawsuit directed at her saying she can not both be a lawmaker and an elector, the lawsuit was filed by two Stark County residents, and her Democratic opponent.

In a statement, Hagan said “It is unfortunate that the extreme left has engaged in what is the most obvious display of partisan and extreme political bullying that can occur. I however will gladly resolve any potential frivolous lawsuits from moving forward by resigning my opportunity to chair and cast a vote as a member of the Electoral College in order to ensure no delay in the official election of Donald J. Trump as the 45th President of the United States.”
