County commissioners say the “living wage” for a family of four in central Ohio is $13.69 an hour, and as such, the rate is the new minimum for Franklin County employees.
The previous minimum for county employees was $11.15 an hour, which means that about 10 percent of the county’s 7,800 employees will be getting a raise under the new rules.
It will cost the county roughly $1.6 million more annually.
The firm that arrived at the $13.69 an hour figure noted that a living wage for a family of four assumes both parents are working. A single parent of two children would need about $24.78 per hour to achieve a living wage.
