Kasich to deliver State of the State tonight, but what do the numbers say?

Ohio Governor and presidential candidate John Kasich is taking a break from the campaign trail (after placing a distant third in last night’s Wisconsin primary election) to deliver his State of the State address in Marietta.

When speaking across the nation, Kasich has been quick to talk up his accomplishments in the Buckeye state, referring to “the Ohio miracle” that occurred during his tenure.

But what do the numbers say?

Yesterday afternoon cincinnati.com published a roundup of key statistics relating to the economy, healthcare and education, highlighting a few facts you’ll probably hear Kasich talk up, and some others that might not get a mention at all.

For example, the number of people living in poverty has decreased since Kasich took office, but the level of childhood poverty remains above the national average.

Ohio’s unemployment levels have decreased in line with the national average, but wages have remained pretty much flat.

Kasich’s expansion of Medicaid has lowered the number of uninsured Ohioans below the national average, but the number of drug overdose deaths rose 40 percent from 2011 to 2014.

As far as the numbers go, there are positives and negatives. But how will the facts compare with the rhetoric of tonight’s State of the State speech?

Check out the original article below for more Ohio stats!
