The Ohio man who rushed Donald Trump at a rally near Dayton pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of illegally entering a restricted area and was sentenced to one year of probation Tuesday.

22-year-old Thomas DiMassimo was also fined $250 and barred from possessing a firearm or explosive during his probation.

Judge Sharon Ovington warned him to “avoid attendance at any Republican presidential event,” and previously warned him to stay away from last week’s Republican National Convention in Cleveland.

He could have faced up to a year in prison.

The Wright State University acting major was arrested March 12 for hopping a barrier and grabbing Trump during a speech. DiMassimo told Judge Ovington he wanted to grab the microphone to stand up to Trump.

3/12/16: Ohio man to be tried for rushing Donald Trump at rally

An Ohio man will be tried for a federal misdemeanor following an incident where he rushed Donald Trump and grabbed him at a political rally in Dayton, Ohio.

Thomas DiMassimo, 22, has been charged with with entering a restricted building or grounds without lawful authority to do so, which carries a maximum 1-year sentence.

DiMassimo was immediately swarmed by Secret Service agents after he hopped a barrier and ran towards the frontrunner for the Republican presidential nomination.

A fourth-year acting major at Wright State University, DiMassimo has a history of protest, including an appearance in a video where he and other students are seen standing on an American flag with an apparent anti-racism message.
