Columbus Man Sentenced 9 Years for Live-Streaming Rape

Raymond Gates, 29, pleaded guilty to the February 27th rape of his 17 year-old female victim.

He is charged with 9 years in prison for raping a minor. The crime was live streamed on social media app, Periscope.

Prosecutors said Gates, the 17-year-old victim and her 18-year-old friend Marina Lonina were at Gates’ home when he forced himself on the 17 year old. This is when Lonina began recording the sexual assault on Periscope, allowing others to watch while it happened. Officials said someone from another state saw it and notified the police.

Lonina has a set trial date of December 12th. According to a press release issued by the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office, the 17-year-old victim had her photo taken in the nude while at Lonina’s home the night prior to the rape.
